DIY Kawaii Slime Bar in Michigan — Build Your Own at Overrated - OVERRATED

DIY Kawaii Slime Bar in Michigan — Build Your Own at Overrated

If you've ever wanted to make your own kawaii slime but didn't want to deal with buying glue, measuring activator, and cleaning up your kitchen — we built a better option.

I run Overrated Korean Beauty & More in Clinton Township, and inside our store we have a DIY kawaii slime bar where you pick your clear slime base, add whatever toppings you want, and walk out with a custom slime you built yourself. No booking, no kit to assemble at home, no mess. Walk in, build it, leave with it. Usually five to ten minutes start to finish.

It's one of those things that's pretty hard to find anywhere else in Michigan, so I figured I'd explain exactly how it works, what it costs, and what to expect if you come in.

How the DIY Slime Bar Works

The process is simple on purpose. Here's the flow:

  1.
  2. Pick your clear slime base — $12.99. It's a stretchy clear slime in a jar, blank canvas, ready to be customized.
  3.
  4. Walk over to the topping wall and pick your mix-ins. Glitter, foam beads, clay pieces, fruit slices, charms, sprinkles, fishbowl beads, sugar-look sand — it's a full wall sorted by color and type.
  5.
  6. Toppings are priced by weight: $0.18 to $0.36 per gram depending on the topping. You scoop what you want into your slime jar, we weigh it at checkout.
  7.
  8. Pay, mix, go. That's it.

Most customers end up spending somewhere in the $15–$22 range all-in, depending on how much topping they load up. If you want to go minimal with a handful of glitter, you can keep it close to $13. If you want to go crazy and pack in clay fruits, foam beads, and shimmer, you'll spend a bit more — still cheaper than most premade specialty slimes online once you factor in shipping.

Why We Built It

Honest answer: because finished slime is great, but making slime is a completely different experience. Kids love it. Teens love it. Adults love it more than they'll admit. It's the same reason build-your-own frozen yogurt took off — people want to customize.

And the at-home alternative is a whole project. Buying glue, borax or activator, food coloring, mix-ins, containers. Measuring. Messing up a batch. Cleaning glue off a table. Most people try it once, get frustrated, and give up.

Our DIY bar removes every frustrating part. The base is already made. The mix-ins are already sorted. You just pick what you want. Five to ten minutes and you're out the door with something you built.

Walk In Anytime — No Appointment Needed

The DIY slime bar is open during all store hours. You don't need to book, you don't need to call ahead, you don't need to buy a ticket. Just walk in.

A couple of practical notes if you're planning a visit:

  •
  • Weekends get busier. Saturday afternoons especially. Still walk-in, but expect a few other people at the topping wall.
  •
  • Birthday groups and small parties — if you want to bring five or more kids, shoot us a message ahead of time so we can make sure the bar isn't packed when you arrive. Not required, just easier.
  •
  • Kids under 8 usually need a parent helping. Not because it's hard, just because the toppings are tiny and it's easy to overdo it.

Where to Find Us

We're inside Partridge Creek Mall, an outdoor lifestyle mall off Hall Road in Clinton Township. Easy parking, easy to find us once you're in.

What's at the Topping Wall

This is the part most first-timers underestimate. The wall has a lot going on. Roughly what you'll find:

  •
  • Foam beads — little squishy round beads that change the texture completely, turns your slime into a crunch slime
  •
  • Clay pieces and fruit slices — miniature food-shaped clay bits, fruit slices, desserts, super cute
  •
  • Glitter and shimmer — fine glitter, chunky glitter, holographic, metallic
  •
  • Fishbowl beads — little clear beads that give slime a "fishbowl" crunch sound and look
  •
  • Sugar-look sand — fine sandy texture, makes a specific tactile feel
  •
  • Charms — small plastic charms, hearts, bows, cute shapes
  •
  • Sprinkles and beads — the small decorative kind, good for color layering

You can mix however many categories you want into one jar. No rules.

Not in Clinton Township? We Still Have Options.

The DIY bar is in-store only — you have to come in to use it, since we can't exactly ship the experience. But if you're in Grand Rapids, Ann Arbor, Lansing, Flint, or anywhere else in Michigan and you just want kawaii slime, the full kawaii slime collection is online with 130+ premade SKUs. Most Michigan orders arrive in 1–3 business days.

We also ship nationwide and to 21+ countries internationally for anyone outside Michigan.

That said — if you're within a reasonable drive of Clinton Township, the DIY bar is worth the trip at least once. It's not something you can get from a box on your doorstep.

Who Comes in for the DIY Slime Bar?

Wider age range than you'd expect. What I see regularly:

  •
  • Kids and tweens — the obvious crowd. Usually with a parent.
  •
  • Teens who come in with friends on a weekend as a thing to do. Honestly one of our biggest groups.
  •
  • Adults buying for themselves — more common than you'd think. Sensory, stress relief, collecting, or just for fun.
  •
  • Birthday parties and small group outings — people use it as a group activity, everyone walks out with their own slime instead of a goodie bag.
  •
  • Content creators filming the process for TikTok or YouTube. The topping wall shoots really well on camera.

What If I Just Want a Premade Slime?

We've got you covered either way. Right next to the DIY bar, we carry 130+ ready-made kawaii slime SKUs — butter slime, cloud slime, clear slime, stretchy slime, ice cream pint slime, all the textures and scents. Most run $12.99–$18.99.

A few that customers ask about often:

Pickle Shimmery Stretchy Slime — $17.99
Clear stretchy slime with shimmer, pickle-themed jar, and yes it actually smells like pickle. Conversation-piece slime.

Ice Cream Pint Slime — Circus Cookie
Layered scented slime in a pint jar designed to look like ice cream. The circus cookie scent is spot on.

Mango Dragonfruit Lemonade Slime
Summer scent, tropical, rotates seasonally. Grab it when you see it.

Cloud Slime — Dreamland Guardians
Light, drizzly cloud texture. Good starter if you've only tried regular stretchy slime.
